Well done ! You spoke to the hearts (deeply hidden) of men everywhere. I battle all the time against this “inner” power. Evolutionary biology/psychology tells us of or “purpose”… spread our seed to many to ensure continuation of our genetic material… I have found this out late in life and in my second marriage. I tried to broach the idea of swinging as a married mans chance to satisfy this innate desire. The alternative is to “get some on the side”… Sandra Bullock is grieving over Jesse James… the very qualities that attracted her to him in the first place are now what she and society are condemning him for… paleez!! Another excellent post on a controversial subject. I disagreed with much you said in the first post, but I respected your opinion.

This time you explained your position in greater detail, and we’re not as far apart on the subject.

I believe, like others on here, is that Tiger was a coward, sneaking around, texting women, seeing mistresses in secret as if it was shameful behaviour.

I believe that a man who is honest about his lifestyle, and gets laid like a rock star (or is a rock star) is a stud – someone to admire.

Someone who sneaks around getting blow jobs from interns is pathetic, and should be ridiculed.

I can see the dilemma for politicians because there’s so much pressure to create an image of being the “family man”.

However, athletes like Tiger don’t have this same pressure (at least, not as much). Look at other famous athletes that are unapologetic about their sex lives (basketball players are a good example). Does this cost them endorsements? Not at all. In fact, it probably gets them more endorsements for products that target men.

So, I believe that we, as enlightened men, should judge Tiger for his actions, but maybe not for the same reasons that others do.

Interesting read as ever Mike. However, the idea of a ‘haremer’ isn’t so far fetched. Look at J. Zuma, the South African president. Or those Mormon fundamentalists. Polygamy is alive and well in those respective tribes. Now you could say that mainstream western society plays by different rules, and that is ‘unfair’ on Tiger because he can’t be the haremer he was destined to be. But by the same token, he wouldn’t have the wealth and status he has without those very same rules. So no reason to complain there.

That said, there are plenty of celebs in the western world who get far more than their share of hot women – and are not derided for doing so. if Tiger had not married, or had separated from his wife several years later when his children were at not such a vulnerable age, his actions might not have caused such a fuss. Instead he played -and profited- mr clean cut, American hero, and it is little wonder he had scorn heaped upon him after being found out. I have no sympathy.

1st of all Tiger Woods wasn’t looking to get laid, he was looking for female attention and affection. If sex drive is his motive there are millions of extremely hot, good looking Hookers in the world and with his money he can get Laid with many of them.

When one is hungry the biggest drive is to find something to eat. When one needs to go to the toilet the biggest drive is to find one. When one is sleepy the biggest drive is to sleep. And when one is horny the biggest drive is to get laid.
Once these and maybe some other basic need is satisfied, humans are able to find some other motivators in life.

Mike, a year ago when I was single and horny the whole time, I would have agreed with you. I would be traveling in a train and instead of reading a book, sleeping, or playing videogames that is what I do now. I would have been looking how to start a conversation with the women sitting next to me.
If I was out with friends instead of enjoying their jokes, stories, exchanging business, political, or silly philosophical ideas, I would have been thinking how to make the cute girl sitting in the table next to us feel attracted to me.

Sex drive is powerful, but I think it is overrated. Once you have that need satisfied you’ll find out how life offers much more than just that.
I’m sure many pseudo HSM have a lot of sex with different women not because of the sex drive, but because they want to be respected by other men. In this case the desire of being respected is more powerful than the sex drive.
Also others like Tiger Woods look for a women to nurture them and that’s the reason he enters into a sexual relationship with them.

We humans are very complex creatures with a lot of drives and needs, and not only that, everyone of us is different. So saying that half of all humans(the male ones), all the time are motivated only by their sex drive, to my opinion is arrogant and silly.

Good point about society and language, Mike. The closest thing we have to convey the idea is “playboy,” thanks in large part to Hef.

But again, MY issue is not with Tiger’s carousing around, but with the fact HE decided to put up the FRONT of a monogamous marriage, which ended up hurting her and himself.

After all, people don’t make a big deal of a single man like Bill Maher carousing around with whoever he wants.

Nobody railed against Roger Daltrey for his fooling around on tour — and he WAS married — to a woman who ACCEPTED it. He was probably straight about it from the get-go. In any case, she knew she could have him on his terms or not have him. The problem with Tiger is that he HOODWINKED his wife into thinking he was having her on her terms.

I don’t see it as a matter of unfaithfulness so much as insincerity.

And let’s face it: Tiger Woods is as high-status as they come. If anyone could land the hottest woman who’s OK with his extracurricular activities, it was him. But instead, he went or the image over the reality, and is now being “therapeutically” emasculated for it.

Hi Mike,

I have read both your articles on Tiger Woods and feel you are right on the money. I have stopped voicing my opinion on the subject in social conversation as it is obvious most people are deluded by societies moral expectation that men have only one partner.
Humans are mearly animals – and like all animals our only real function in this world is to reproduce and spread our genes as far as we can before we die. Unfortunately unlike other animals we have concious thought so we can choose to over ride our unconcious animal instincts to reproduce with as many women as possible.
Tiger Woods is simply doing what any man would do if given the opportunity. Take away the morals and expectations placed on him by society and we would look up to him as a king.
Ignore any criticism Mike, most people are not ready to beleive that everything they do in life is about sex. They don’t wants to beleive that the 5 years they spent at university to become a doctor, plus all the money spent on the right cothes, the cool car and the big house are nothing more than tools to get into womens pants. They are looking for higher purpose – let them look. If they search carefully they will realise you are right.

Ah come on Mike. You’re failing to see the complete picture.

Tiger Woods is a coward, and he’s a coward because he isn’t true to himself. If a man is a “haremer” he should be the best, proudest and openest “haremer” there ever was. And be so publicly.

Anything less, is not being a true man and not true to yourself.
